As countries focus on preventing deaths linked to COVID, unintentionally, they have been ignoring chronic complex comorbid conditions like diabetes and obesity. We now know that these comorbidities contribute significantly to COVID deaths. Key to reducing COVID deaths is not to ignore chronic complex comorbid conditions. People should continue seeking care for their comorbidities and work on managing them effectively.

Santosh is currently the director for healthcare economics, health policy and reimbursement with Medtronic. He also serves as the Government Affairs liaison for Medtronic’s Medical Surgical business. Santosh has been a part of a team to understand the epidemiological trends, evolving data and evidence and implications of COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, he has been studying at-risk populations for COVID-19, impact of COVID on non-COVID conditions. He has been training healthcare professionals in countries like US, Bangladesh, Myanmar on COVID related aspects like surveillance, infection prevention and control. He has been with Medtronic for 11 years and spent a lot of time on data analytics and value communication. Santosh has degrees in Pharmacy and Business Administration. He is passionate about access to care, particularly in emerging markets.
